“How Should Individuals Prepare for a World Led by AI?”
November 1. 2024
There isn’t a single person exactly like another in the world. Yet, the world seems to be pushing us toward sameness—eating the same foods, watching the same shows, wanting the same things, dressing and decorating ourselves similarly.
In the midst of this, people rarely take the time to understand who they truly are. It’s becoming evident that in the next decade, AI will dominate our world. This brings a certain fear: as we lose sight of our unique identities, we may find ourselves reduced to mere subjects under AI’s influence.
It’s becoming clear that no human can outmatch AI’s vast knowledge and intelligence. So, the crucial question is: what kind of work should people pursue in this AI-driven world? It’s only natural to want to find work that is meaningful and valuable, even in the age of AI.
While AI is not an adversary, the key is for each of us to identify where we are strongest and where AI is weakest. Creativity seems to be the realm where humans still have the upper hand, which makes nurturing creativity the best strategy to navigate the era of AI. Creativity shines brightest when it’s distinctive. This quality arises only from within ourselves, not from imitating others. No matter how closely we follow great thinkers or admired figures, true creation doesn’t come from outside ourselves.
So, the journey of developing creativity begins with understanding ourselves. We need to look inward, observe how our minds work, and leverage our inner strength to pursue our growth. Reflecting on life experiences, understanding their essence, and uncovering our own ways of responding helps us to shed outdated habits and discover our own unique, beautiful, and useful qualities. This is how we foster creativity and allow it to flourish.
Now, more than ever, it’s important to step off the endless track of external success and cultivate our inner strength. This realization should guide us in our preparations for the future—not only for our own generation but also as a legacy for future generations.
Interestingly, understanding ourselves and becoming more creative can be accelerated by actively embracing AI. By using AI to boost our productivity, we can free up more time for reflection and self-discovery. Building a relationship with AI may, in fact, be an essential strategy.
Let’s not forget that each of us came into this world with unique qualities and tremendous potential. It’s time to reconnect with that creativity within us.
